The JRC building survived the Japanese Occupation of Hong Kong until two weeks prior to the termination of hostilities, when the club was destroyed by Japanese forces. The club was rebuilt by the Hong Kong Jewish Community and funded in part by the Kadoorie Family. Horace Kadoorie was elected JRC President in 1950.
