It was established thanks to the initiative of Chinese businessmen and a few members of the British community in Hong Kong, who were desirous of renewing and strengthening the bonds of friendship between the two communities in the post-war years. Activities of the Association included entertaining the British Trade Mission under the leadership of Sir Leslie Boyce in 1947, welcoming Sir Donald Banks, Chairman of the Anglo-Chinese Chamber of Commerce in London, England, in 1947, and organising lectures on a variety of topics. Lawrence Kadoorie became a Vice-President of the Association in 1947.
