In 1900, robert Shewan registered the China Light & Power Syndicate Ltd in Hong Kong with an aim to provide electricity to Kowloon. In 1901, the Syndicate took over the Canton Electric & Fire Extinguishing Company, acquired its power station in Shamian ans started operation in Guangzhou. Pictured is its first power station in Shamian, Guangzhou.
